The Alpini Medio Sangro Group was founded in Atessa in May 2000. The name Medio Sangro was born with the intention of conveying in the Group the many Alpini residing in neighboring municipalities where there are no Alpine groups, in fact, the idea immediately collects many consents and within a few years reaches the unexpected quota of 320 members. The Group is named in memory of Ten Col. Pompilio Orfeo alpino vero, umile e disponibili di Atessa che tanto a dato agli alpini in genere ma soprattutto agli alpini Atessani, che, hanno avuto il fortuna e l’onore di prestare militare sotto il comando. The continuous and numerous presence in the Alpine events immediately increases the notoriety of the group. Managing to organize events even in neighboring countries to keep the Alpine spirit alive. In a very short time he managed to organize a group of civil protection volunteers named in memory of Davide Fantasia, helping to strengthen the family of Alpine volunteers of our Section, with a presence in the various exercises and emergencies, activating himself in a daily way in the activities of help and support to people in need and collaboration with other associations in the country. The Group’s activities took shape with the establishment of the Coro Alpino Medio Sangro in December 2004. Its main purpose is to keep alive the tradition of alpine and mountain songs and to transmit to the new generations that sense of alpinity, which is a philosophy of life. In addition to the trench and mountain songs, the popular songs of Abruzzo have not been neglected, particular attention to those of our fellow citizen Antonio Di Iorio. Today we can say that thanks to the availability of our alpine members but above all to the great professionalism and commitment of the master Menotti Fioriti, and of the accordionist and arranger Giuseppe Suriani we have managed to create a choir of good level so as to receive many applause and appreciation, both at the performances in the various alpine gatherings within our province, in many evenings for charity purposes and even more so on the occasion of the national gatherings of the Alpini where our choir has always been present in recent years, events full of emotions for all the choristers who felt joined to the great Alpine family. We continue to carry the name of our choir higher and higher, even with a national character, as well as the name of our country Atessa and the alpine and popular songs of Abruzzo.
