The Nuova Corale Polifonica was founded in February 2002 as part of the Accademia Musicale Musikè in Vibo Valentia. Different ages, professional activities and personalities fused in the love for music and singing. In July of the same year, the debut with a solemn Mass celebrated in the Capuchin convent of Vibo Valentia. From that date a series of successful performances, under the aegis of the Provincial Administration, with repertoires always different, interesting and intriguing, in large and small towns, trying to combine the knowledge of music with the discovery and rediscovery of places, cultures and ethnicities.
President of the Association is Dr. Nino Bova who has always, with meticulousness, commitment and incomparable seriousness, takes care of relations with external systems.
The concertation and direction was entrusted from the beginning to Maestro Francesco Arena, still at the helm of the polyphonic choir.
Francesco Arena obtained his clarinet musical studies at the “Francesco Cilea” Conservatory of Reggio Calabria, detached section “Fausto Torrefranca” of Vibo Valentia, graduating under the guidance of Maestro Antonio Laureana in 1987.
His choral experience began in 1983 with the polyphonic choir of the Conservatory of Vibo Valentia. Since then he has been part of several vocal groups with some of which he has participated in several concerts and important competitions at national level.
He is active as a composer and organist-pianist accompanist although, in all these tasks, completely self-taught.
His nature for the composition leads him continuously to write, transcribe and arrange pieces both for instrumental ensembles and for vocal ensembles including a “Ave Maria” at 4 vv. dd, two Masses for choir for three and four mixed voices, a spiritual for six voices and a sweet Christmas lullaby in Calabrian dialect with which he participated in the I Regional Competition of Calabrian Christmas carols winning the first prize.
On December 30, 2000 he ranked 2nd in the same competition with the song “DATTI PACI, MAMMA”. He also participated in the VI – VII and VIII Course of Conducting and Choral Vocality established by the O.C.C. /FE.N.The.A.R.CO. held by M°. Walter Marzilli.
He is Conductor of the polyphonic choir “NUOVA CORALE POLIFONICA” of Vibo Valentia and of the parish choir “SAN FRANCESCO D’ASSISI” of Presinaci di Rombiolo (VV) with whom he undertook a conspicuous series of liturgical and artistic commitments.
