Date: 20 – 25 Place: ONLINE

A course born from the will of the Ass.ne CHORUS INSIDE CALABRIA together with FEDERCORI, with the aim of offering an instrument of knowledge, of full awareness of the profound meaning of Singing in the liturgical celebration.

Msgr. Marco Frisina, who for years has been bringing his experience as a priest, musician and teacher to many Italian and foreign Dioceses, will guide us on a path that will provide the elements to answer some of the most frequent questions that our singers ask us:

What is the fundamental function of liturgical singing?

Can the ritual and the musical beauty coexist?

Is there a theology of sacred music?

execution: entrusted to volunteers or professionals?

Msgr. MARCO FRISINA was born in Rome in 1954, after classical studies he graduated in composition at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia. He completed his theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University and then obtained a licentiate in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute.

Ordained a priest in 1982, he carried out his ministry in the Diocese of Rome. He is currently Consultor of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization and Rector of the Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere.
He holds courses at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music.
He is also Ordinary Virtuous Academician of the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts and Literature of the Virtuosi at the Pantheon, of which he is Spiritual Assistant.

Author of numerous liturgical songs known and appreciated in Italy and abroad, in 1984 he founded – and since then directs – the Choir of the Diocese of Rome, with which he animates the most important diocesan liturgies, some of which are presided over by the Holy Father.

In 1991 he began his collaboration with the international rai project "Bibbia" both as a biblical consultant and author of the music of the films produced. In addition to the "Bible Project", over the years he has composed the soundtracks of many films with a historical and religious theme.

His musical production counts over thirty Sacred Oratorios inspired by biblical characters or the life of great saints. Alongside these, they deserve to be mentioned: "Song of Songs" written in 2009 and represented at the "Festival Anima Mundi" in Pisa, "Passio Caeciliae" composed in 2011 and performed in Rome and New York on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, "Paradiso Paradiso", in 2013, for the 56th "Festival of Two Worlds" in Spoleto with the participation of Giorgio Albertazzi, and "To the ends of the Earth", inspired by the narration of the shipwreck of St. Paul in Malta and performed there in February 2017 on the centenary of the martyrdom of the Apostle.

In 2007 he composed the play "The Divine Comedy", the first musical transposition of Dante's masterpiece of the same name. In the 2009-2010 season he staged his second work for the theater: "The Miracle of Marcellin", inspired by the novel by José Maria Sanchez Silva "Marcellino Bread and Wine" . He is also the author of the music of "In Hoc Signo", performed in 2013 in Belgrade on the occasion of the millennium of the Edict of Milan and the Opera-Oratorio "Passio Christi" represented in 2018 in Malaga.

He was promoter and coordinator of the First Conference of Italian Choirs, held in Rome in September 2014, and of the Jubilee of Choirs in October 2016, which saw the participation of over 8,000 singers from all over the world. Since 2015 he has been artistic director of the "Concert with the Poor and for the Poor" held in the Paul VI Hall.
