Biography
The Polyphonic Choir of the Cathedral of Lecce has always carried out liturgical-musical service on the occasion of the diocesan celebrations presided over by the Archbishop, which take place at the Cathedral of Lecce, as well as at other Churches.
It is composed of singers (professionals and amateurs) divided into the classic four sections.
The repertoire ranges from sacred and liturgical music of the '500 (Palestrina) to the performance of pieces composed by contemporary authors.
Since 2011 the Choir has been directed by Prof. Antonio Calabrese, with the appointment of Archbishop D'ambrosio confirmed by Msgr. Michele Seccia, current Archbishop of Lecce.
Professor of Literary Subjects and passionate about Homeland History, Literature and Dialect Poetry, since June 2020 he is the first graduate in Organ with Liturgical Address in Puglia, with honors and academic honors, after attending the three-year course at the Conservatory of Music "N. Rota" of Monopoli (M. Margherita Sciddurlo) and the two-year specialization at the Conservatory of Music "T. Schipa" of Lecce (M. Antonio Rizzato).
He attended several masters and specializations related to both the teaching profession and the theater, but also the music sector, including some courses of Gregorian Chant held by P. Anselmo Susca, of venerable memory, and by Msgr. Giuseppe Liberto, director emeritus of the Pontifical Choir "Sistine Chapel" in Rome, while in July 2020 he obtained the diploma in Liturgical Music issued by the C.And.The.
He is a member of the Liturgical Office of the Diocese of Lecce for the Sacred Music sector and Conductor of the Choir of the Archdiocese of Lecce.
He is the author of several liturgical and hymn compositions, also for band and orchestra (such as the Salve Regina for tenor and soprano, composed in honor of Maria SS. del Pane), performed in the Cathedral and in other parishes of Italy.
In addition, twice (June 2012 and August 2014) he accompanied the celebration of the Holy Mass of the Chapter at the Pontifical Basilica of St. Peter, in the Vatican.
