The Choir of San Biagio was founded in 1961.
To start the activity were Don Giansandro Ravagna, Sergio Pirani, Giancarlo Pagani and Roberto Trevisan.
The beginning came with the participation of a small group of people and the difficulty of finding a director, so much so that in some periods, it was Don Sandro himself who directed the Choir during the various Solemnities, such as the Holy Christmas Night, while to celebrate there was the then Parish Vicar Don Giacomo Rolfi; Don Sandro limited himself only to saying the Homily.
In the beginning the few participants sang only pieces in unison but after the adaptation to the Liturgical Reforms of the Second Vatican Council they began to perform pieces also in polyphony. When the Choir was followed by Don Alberto Ferrara (then Parish Vicar) and Maestro Ing. Massimo Migliavacca there was a significant increase in participants. This reality led to the birth of a well-defined group that saw as director, in 1985, Maestro Davide Casadio, still at the direction of the Choir.
The group gave itself a name: “Corale Armata Brancaleone (singing and out of tune we praise the
Lord)”. Title and subtitle want to express openness to all men of good will
to sing to our Lord.
The repertoire performed by the Choir is typical of the Polyphonic Classics divided into two macrogroups: ancient classics (1500 – 1700 and Romanticism) and the current classics (Mons. Frisina, De Marzi, Florian).
Everything you learn is an opportunity to collaborate with other choirs in different ways and forms.
Through the gift we are enriched with new knowledge; it is for this reason that it is always
the collaboration of the Corale di San Biagio with the Diocesan Choir directed by Maestro
Don Alberto Brunelli. The desire to collaborate is very much felt within the choir, both for
sing together, both for the exchange of songs and knowledge.
The members of San Biagio have in fact participated as singers in the Diocesan Choir at the
Eucharistic Congress of Ravenna, at the events for the Jubilee Year and at the
Ceremony of transport of the Remains of Blessed Maria Conforti from San Vitale to San Pietro in
Constraints. They have also been participating for several years in the solemnities of Sant’Apollinare (in the Cathedral)
Metro and in the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe), Santa Cecilia and the Day
World Youth World Cup.
The Choir has also participated in many festivals and choral meetings especially in Ravenna.
