The Eleonora D’Arborea Ethnic Polyphonic Choir took its first steps in February 2015 thanks to the initiative of its Maestro Antonello Manca, (graduated in 1992, at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and founder of the “Malinda Mai” Orchestra, violinist, composer, director of the Youth Choir and White Voices, currently collaborates with the London orchestra Camerata Geminiani as orchestrator and arranger) and a group of friends united by a passion for singing and music. From the beginning the main objective has been to stimulate the spirit of friendship and solidarity among the choristers, promoting the positive commitment of free time and actively participating in the dissemination and knowledge of musical culture.
The choir meets for rehearsals twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 20:30 to 21:30 in Via Amsicora (Oristano) in the hall adjacent to the football field. The registration is open to all, in fact the choir over time has welcomed, and continues to welcome, new choristers (without requiring any previous experience with singing or musical reading) and currently consists of about 40 people, including the Maestro, Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses.
The current repertoire contains pieces taken from the Sardinian folk tradition including: “Deus ti salvet Maria” written in the 18th century by the poet Bonaventura Licheri, “Su bolu e s’astore” by Tonino Puddu, “Hana allumadu unu fogu” by Antonio Lotta and “Non potho reposare” in the version by Maestro Giuseppe Altea arranged by Maestro Antonello Manca. In addition, a repertoire of Christmas songs is being prepared and one dedicated to the performance of pieces of popular origin with an international character including some of African, Irish, Russian and English origin.
Despite its recent formation, the Choir “Polifonico Etnico Eleonora D’Arborea” has repeatedly performed in public and has participated in concerts and exhibitions. Her debut dates back to May 16, 2015 when she participated in the Choral Concert organized for charity by the Cultural Association “Coro Eleonora d’Arborea” of Oristano in collaboration with the Poor Clare Sisters of the Monastery of St. Clare, at the homonymous Church in Oristano.
