The Girls Choir Polka was founded in June 2019 at the initiative of conductor Magdalena Handke.
The initial auditions were held with the support of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Orchestra in Szczecin. From the seventy girls aged 8 to 14 who auditioned, a 35-member choir was selected. The choir’s first stage experiences were closely linked to the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra: the Polka Female Choir’s debut performance took place during the fifth-anniversary celebrations of the Philharmonic’s new venue.
Subsequent performances were also connected to the institution: in December 2019, the choir performed at the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra Big Band’s Christmas concert, and in November 2020, Polka participated in recording choral parts for the album *I Żyli Długi I W Szczecinie 2*.
In September 2022, a preparatory group for girls aged 5–6, named “Little Polka,” was established.
In June 2024, the choir celebrated its fifth anniversary, and since then, rehearsals have been held regularly at the “Słowianin” Cultural Center. Since 2022, the Polka Female Choir has participated in the choral development program of the Polish Choral Academy (West Pomerania Region).
The Polka Female Choir’s main activities include concerts for the residents of Szczecin—organized as part of various city and regional events—as well as independent concerts, workshops, open rehearsals, and participation in choral competitions and festivals.
