The Chamber Choir of Hungarian Educators was founded in October 2007 in Cluj, a city located in the Transylvania region of Romania.
In November 2013 the choir took the name of Mihály Guttman, thus continuing its activity under the name of the true master and mentor of many generations of Transylvanian musicians. Its members are active and retired high school music, natural sciences, and humanities teachers, as well as kindergarten and primary school teachers.
Their activity is characterized by commitment, reliability, high standards of choral singing and joyful team spirit. The Choir strives to achieve clarity and punctuality, placing emphasis on the careful elaboration of every little detail. The wide dynamic range of the choir’s sound gradually rises from the delicate pianissimo to the forte, always in line with the internal content of the music.
They mainly perform the pearls of Hungarian music, but their repertoire also includes works by classical, romantic and contemporary authors from all over Europe and pieces by Hungarian composers from Cluj and Transylvania. In addition to Transylvania, the choir presented its repertoire of over one hundred and forty pieces of sacred and secular music, including Hungarian folk songs, in various cities and countries abroad, being at the same time an important ensemble of the Association of Hungarian Choirs in Romania.
The choir is often a guest of prestigious choral festivals and festive cultural events and maintains good relations with partner choirs from Hungary and Slovakia. In 2015 the choir obtained the vote of “Golden Appraisal” at the qualifying concert of the Association of Hungarian Choirs, Orchestras and Folk Groups (KÓTA), and in 2018 it received the qualification of “Festival Choir”.
In January 2018 the choir of Hungarian educators “Mihály Guttman” received the “KÓTA” award in the choir category in recognition of its outstanding work in promoting Hungarian musical culture.
