The Polyphonic Choir “Acerenza Città Cattedrale” was founded in 1994 by the will of Don Mario Festa and S.And. Msgr. Michele Scandiffio to render a liturgical service to the Cathedral Basilica as a Musical Chapel.
It has animated numerous liturgies presided over by high prelates on the occasion of the ninth centenary of the Cathedral and several liturgies broadcast live on RAI, as well as numerous concerts in the Cathedral and in various regional and national shrines.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the dedication of the Cathedral, the largest and oldest in southern Italy, the Choir, at the behest of S.And. Giovanni Ricchiuti, is the promoter and organizer of a choral review (now in its thirteenth edition) held every year on May 13th.
The Choir has been directed since March 2017 by Maestro Carmine Lavinia, who, through a strong and constant work on choral vocality and liturgical-musical repertoires, continues to grow more and more the singing group in relation to its true nature as the Musical Chapel of the Cathedral.
