The choir was born on January 9, 2008 under the direction of Maestro Paolo Crisante strongly desired by Prof. Marialaura Perfetto Giuliani then president of the Ass.ne University for the third age of L’Aquila. After a brief interruption due to the seismic event of April 6, 2009, the choristers wanted to resume the activity even with great sacrifice, having to move from the coast, since the choir represented a fixed point of social contact. Although there was no longer a fixed venue, for the Friends of Bel Canto choral activity has become a priority. The discovery of polyphony, listening to each other in the interweaving of sometimes arduous voices, has always entertained and passionate them until they reach a crescendo of positive and satisfactory results on the occasion of cultural events even outside the city. In recent years the choir has represented a real musical laboratory for those enrolled at the University. In fact, he has organized courses in musical literacy and vocal technique, seminars with a guide to listening to different genres and authors taken from the history of music, deepening of both folk singing and classical polyphony. In 2013 the choir recorded the first CD dedicated to the rebirth of the city of L’Aquila battered by the earthquake of April 6, 2009: “Me tengo recordà che scì renata”, a valuable collection of traditional and author’s popular songs. Always present every year in two great choral and musical events of L’Aquila: the concerts of the Perdonanza and the Christmas Cantata. In addition, he successfully participated in the national exhibition City of Umbertide (June 2014) and in the first national exhibition organized in L’Aquila by the University for the Third Age in 2015. He is the promoter on behalf of the University of the project “Canto per te” whose goal is to bring singing to particular places such as nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and prisons. Project started in 2014 and will continue throughout the year 2016. With the reopening of the Basilica of San Bernardino, on May 2, 2015, the Musical Chapel of S. Bernardino was established, a center for studies and research on liturgical music and in September 2016 the Association promoted a conference entitled “Music and Liturgy”, which was held in L’Aquila with the presence of qualified exponents on the subject.
