Biography

Founded in 1975 for the tenacious commitment of bel canto enthusiasts, since its foundation it has carried out an intense concert activity, under the guidance of talented conductors, receiving numerous appreciation. The choir consists of about 40 mixed elements with a repertoire that ranges from opera music to popular and folkloric singing, from sacred to profane, from medieval to Renaissance polyphony, from the music of film soundtracks to the contemporary one. Over the years the choral City of Neptune has carried out its concert activity in various Italian and foreign cities, has performed in the most important Basilicas of Rome such as San Pietro, Santa Maria Maggiore, San Giovanni in Laterano, Santa Maria in Trastevere, Santa Prassede, Sant’Ignazio with the accompaniment of the Band of the State Police. He also took part in reviews promoted by the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Noteworthy are the events at Palazzo Barberini in Rome and at the Church of Aracoeli on the occasion of the Feast of the Family, the latter filmed by RaiUno TV. The Choir has participated in important exhibitions and performed concerts at the University of Camerino, in Norcia, Cortona, Merano, Città della Pieve, Avellino, Chieti, Cecina in Venice in the Review “Venezia in Coro”, Assisi, Abbey of Fossanova, Avellino, Terni, etc.

The Choir has given concerts particularly in Germany where it has performed, among other things, the “Carmina Burana” by Orff with the Sangerchor of Traunreut and the “Cecilien Messe” by Gounod also present the French Choir of Lucè, bringing together over 100 choristers. The Choir participates in the most significant solemnities of the Pontifical Basilica Madonna delle Grazie and Santa Maria Goretti in Nettuno. He animated the Holy Masses celebrated by His Holiness John Paul II and others by eminent Cardinals – Ruini, Sodano, Comastri, Poupard, Ravasi etc. There are also numerous appointments held together with orchestral groups of Rome such as: “Roma sinfonia”, “L’Orchestra giovanile del Lazio”, “L’Orchestra Oberon”, “L’Orchestra filarmonica Orpheus”, etc. In 2013 the Choir solemnized the year dedicated to Wagner and Verdi with an exceptional concert together with the group “il Coro” of Munich. Every year the Choir organizes concerts and challenging events accompanied by qualified instrumental groups. To underline the traditional events: “SUMMER AT THE FORT”, “AUTUMN CONCERT” and the “CHRISTMAS CONCERTS”. On the occasion of the feast of Santa Maria Goretti, the Choir programs a Review of Polyphonic Chorales, now in its 37th edition. The prestigious event that takes place in the Pontifical Basilica Madonna delle Grazie and Santa Maria Goretti are attended by important choral groups from many Italian and foreign cities with the presence of no less than 300 choristers. The City of Neptune Choir has been registered since 16 November 2018 in the FEDERAZIONE CORI ITALIANI CHORUS INSIDE – APS Ente Terzo Settore.
