The choir “Hope” was born in Palermo in the early 90s, at the Parish of San Gabriele Arcangelo in Palermo, the founders were Gioacchino Marcello Faranna, Giovanna Fatima Lo Verde, Piera Buttitta and the late Rino Caruso, who already animated for about ten years, the religious functions within the Parish, as well as the prayer of the Renewal of the Spirit.
The choir takes care of the service of liturgical singing, during the Sunday Mass at 12.00, and together with another parish choir, of solemn functions such as Easter and Christmas.
The repertoire of the choir includes classical songs of the liturgy, songs of Frisina, Buttazzo, to name a few composers, songs of the repertoire of the R.n.S., and unpublished songs composed by Gioacchino Marcello Faranna, such as the solemn “Gloria”, often used for Easter and Christmas vigils.
In the past the choir has proposed several recitals, in parishes, convents, religious institutes and hospitals, trying to spread the message of “Hope”, from which the choir takes its name.
Another very important work proposed in different parishes of Palermo and Province, also in the cathedral of the Sicilian capital, is the “Opra Santa”, composed by Gioacchino Marcello Faranna, which speaks of the life of Jesus, in Sicilian dialect, where the author “tells” the life of the Messiah, from birth to resurrection, a work more unique than rare in its kind.
In addition to the classic instruments that are normally used during Eucharistic celebrations, often, during the Christmas period, the accordion is used, for the performance of traditional Christmas songs, such as, You come down from the stars, White Christmas etc. etc.
