It seems strange that even in a seaside town like Pescara, where everything is linked to water, there are many who have served in the Military in the Alpine departments. So, it is not surprising that sometimes, scrutinizing the Abruzzo sky, it happens to see “flying together” white seagulls and proud black-feathered eagles. These Alpini have not neglected two arts always highly appreciated by those who frequent the mountains: music and singing. The choir was formed in 1991, with the desire to keep alive the singing traditions and to safeguard the values that inspire them, and that have always characterized those who have dedicated and dedicate their lives to the mountains, both in times of peace and war. In its repertoire, the “Peppino Romano” Choir, so called to remember a friend of the Pescara Alpini “went on”, includes, in addition to the typical mountain songs, folk songs and pieces of sacred music. This ability to range in such different musical fields has allowed the Pescara choir to perform on the occasion of numerous festivals for choirs, and in the context of civil and religious events, also for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, as well as for the annual religious celebration for the fallen of Nikolajewka (Russian front of the last world war), even in Rome, in the Vatican, during an audience with the Holy Father John Paul II. Recently the choir has been invited to perform on the occasion of the cultural events related to the Perdonanza Celestiniana al’Aquila, and the National Conference on “D’Annunzio soldier. The choir is directed by Maestro Arnaldo Vernamonte, who with wisdom and a lot of patience has managed to make us reach a qualified level of preparation. Well… how to say… it is true that everywhere the Black Pens fly very high, even to the sea!!!
