The Coro della Virgola was born in 2000 on the initiative of its Director and a group of musicians who share the interest and passion for polyphonic vocal music. From the exclusively Renaissance repertoire of the beginning, over the years the Choir has extended its interpretative research to the cornerstones of the Italian, French and German Baroque, to some of the most significant composers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in Europe and to works by particularly interesting living authors, often presented in national premiere. This activity, always attentive to the cultural aspects of its work, has earned the Coro della Virgola the constant affection of its audience and the attention of the most prestigious musical institutions in the area. In fact, he has performed with his own programs for the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese, for the Società di Concerti B.Barattelli dell’Aquila -in a program entirely dedicated to De Victoria, for the International Festival of Castelbasso, for the Conservatory of Pescara in a memorable performance of the Cantata BWV 21 by J.S.Bach, for the Accademia Musicale Pescarese -for which he performed the national premiere of the Stabat Mater for cello and choir by the Norwegian composer Knut Nysted and several times for the Festival Pietre che cantano for which he also presented the first Italian performance of the Gartenlieder op.3 by Fanny Mendelssohn. Also known outside the region, the activity of the Coro della Virgola had an important response in the invitation of the Cantiere d’Arte Internazionale di Montepulciano, with which it collaborated from 2007 to 2009, also in the preparation of the Italian premiere of two works by K.Weill and H. Eisler on text by B. Brecht. Internationally, the Choir performed in Spain as the official representative for the celebrations of the Italian Republic (2008), in the cathedral of St. Giles of Edinburgh (2010) and in 2012 for the Festival of Contemporary Music in Krakow, during which he performed the most significant works of the dean of Polish composers Juliusz Luciuk, enjoying great public success and the admiration of the Maestro. As a sign of esteem, Maestro Luciuk composed in the following months an Ave Maria dedicated to the Chorus of the Comma which was performed in world premiere in Chieti in October 2012, together with works by the Abruzzo composers Giorgio Bafile and Paolo Rosato also in absolute premiere. As further proof of the quality of the work of these years, the curriculum of the Coro della Virgola finally boasts the important results achieved in the National Competitions F.Marcacci (First Absolute Prize), Città di Fermo (2nd Absolute Prize and special jury prize for the performance of O Zemio Polka by J.Luciuk) and, first choir from Abruzzo in the mixed voices category, 2nd Absolute Prize in the 2011 edition of the prestigious Guido d’Arezzo.
