Biography

“Bibliocanto” is a polyphonic choir with a very varied repertoire, which has been specializing over time in traditional Italian and international music, with some incursion into profane and spiritual Renaissance music. It was born in Rome in October 2015, on the initiative of some choristers who, starting from other choral experiences, wanted to give life to a new choir in the Spinaceto district. Fundamental was the availability of the master Paula GALLARDO who, from the beginning, takes over the direction.

Unlike most other choirs, the Bibliocanto project was born in a library. It is in fact the Pier Paolo Pasolini Municipal Library that, recognizing its social and cultural value, provides a rehearsal room. Hence the name adopted by the choir: “Bibliocanto”.

On June 7, 2019 the choir is formed into a Cultural Association.

Starting from October 2019 Bibliocanto changes the venue where it meets weekly for rehearsals. From now on it is hosted by the Consulta della Cultura of the IX Municipality of Rome.

The numerous adhesions have made it possible to constitute the current formation, aggregated around the initial group of the five founding choristers.

Since 2017 the choir has held a Christmas concert every year and an end-of-year concert at the Pier Paolo Pasolini library.

In December 2017 the Christmas concert at the church of San Giovanni Battista De La Salle.

In December 2017 and 2018 he participated in the event “Choirs under the tree – Advent Festival” in the basilica of S. Lorenzo in Lucina in Rome.

During December 2019 she sang at the oratory of the Santissimo Crocifisso and at the Benedetto Rossi Elderly Center.

The first trips
In March 2017, on the occasion of the awarding of the “Ischitella – Pietro Giannone” award in Ischitella (FG), he held concerts in the municipal hall and outdoors.
In May 2017 he performed at the cultural center “Gabriella Ferri” on the occasion of the aperitif dedicated to Achille Serrao.

From the Seven Hills to the Alps
In May 2018 he organized a concert at the Consulta della Cultura of the IX Municipio, with the participation of the choirs “I Sincopatici” and the “Nuovo coro Popolare”.
In June 2018 he participated in the “International Choir Festival” in Val Pusteria.

From library to library
In March 2019 he held a concert at the National Central Library of Rome on the occasion of the event “Other languages – Achille Serrao”, poetry reading.

On June 10, 2019, as every year, he holds a concert at the Tor De’ Cenci Elderly Center.

On 19 June 2019 he participated in the initiative of the Consulta della Cultura and the Pasolini Library “Regional folk songs and songs from the world” at the Ort9 park.

On June 21, 2019 on the occasion of the music festival, a new concert at the Pasolini Library.

On 6 and 7 September he is in Puglia to participate in the “XVI National Prize City of Ischitella Pietro Giannone”.

On October 21, the presentation of the book “L’opera Poetica 1968-1979” by Achille Serrao took place at the Pier Paolo Pasolini Library in Rome, with the participation of Bibliocanto.
