The folk choir “COLLINE VERDI TEATINE” was founded in 2000 within the Cultural Recreational Association “PRIMAVERA ’94”, today it has become the PRO LOCO Association of San Giovanni Teatino (CH), with the aim of promoting and spreading the Abruzzo folk repertoire, therefore, to transmit the echo of past culture through folk dances and dialect songs. In 13 years of activity the choir has performed both in many regional events in many countries of Abruzzo, and in various events in Italy and abroad. Among the most important commitments we remember: the participation several times in the regional event of ANMIL in Isola del Gran Sasso (TE), which gathers thousands of people every year; the 4 trips to Switzerland (2001/2003/2007/2011) to different communities in Abruzzo; the trip to Umbria (July 2007) to represent Abruzzo in an eno-gastronomic and folklore event in the cities of Spello and Assisi; participation in the National Meeting of Italian Choirs affiliated to FAFIT representing Abruzzo, in 2008 in Aosta and in 2009 in Castelraimondo (MC) and in 2010 in Grosseto; the trip to Milan in November 2009; the participation representing Abruzzo at the “Olio & Olive” event in Cumiana (Turin) in October 2010; participation in the Folk Festival of Terni (May 2011); participation in the International Festival “Chorus Inside Città di Chieti” in June 2011; the trip to Slovenia in July 2011; participation in the Singing Festival “Passion of Jesus” in Sutri (VT) in March 2012; participation in the Folkloristic Meeting of Collescipoli (Terni) in May 2012; participation in the Alta Pusteria International Choral Festival (June 2013); there were also numerous participations in choral festivals held in many countries of Abruzzo and that the choir of San Giovanni Teatino also organizes annually in August, with a resounding success. Since 9 June 2012 the choir is twinned with the Folk Group Aniello Polsi di Vasto. The choir, composed of about 35 choristers divided into 4 sections (basses, tenors, altos and sopranos) and united by the desire to be together and to share the joy of music, is directed by Maestro GIULIANO DI BERARDINO, and is accompanied with accordion and accordion by Maestro DIANA BABORO (head of the group), accordionist SARA D’ANNIBALE and bassist EUGENIO SURRICCHIO. The repertoire is focused: – on traditional songs of Abruzzo folklore, some of which are enlivened by skits and dialect sketches that enrich the choir’s program making it more sympathetic and lively, always keeping the attention of the public alive; – on dances characteristic of our land, including “la Quadriglia”, “il Saltarello”, and “il Ballo dei Nastri” (also called “Laccio d’Amore”). A very important peculiarity is the versatility of the choir, which can boast a rich repertoire, from folkloristic to sacred; in fact, the performances in the square with folk songs alternate, on the occasion of ceremonies and festivities, those in the church, with sacred songs, or, during the Christmas period, with Christmas concerts. Particularly appreciated is also the Representation of “Lu Sant’Antonje”, in January, an ancient folk tradition that stages the temptations inflicted by the devil on St. Anthony.
