SCHOLA CANTORUM VINCENZO DE GIORGIO (SCURCOLA MARSICANA) The Schola Cantorum Association "V. De Giorgio" was founded in Scurcola Marsicana at the end of 1983 under the guidance of Maestro Don Nino Balestra, at first only with male voices and, later, expanding its repertoire with female voices. It is the period of the study of Masses (Perosi, Vittadini Zimarino) as well as liturgical pieces and operas. The repertoire of the Choir is also enriched by pieces of regional folklore suitably reworked in a polyphonic key. In 1995 the direction of the choir passes to Marco Di Girolamo and with him the Schola, taking care of the techniques of polyphony, obtains brilliant successes with the execution of the authors of classical polyphony of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries (Palestrina, Croce, Marenzio, Nenna) and also Haendel, Bach, Vivaldi up to the most modern Frisina. There were numerous liturgical animations, from the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua, st. Gabriel in Teramo, in Rome, as well as in all the nearby centers. Monica Tortora takes care of the direction of the choir since the beginning of the twentieth year of activity of the same. In 2007 the Schola participated in the exhibition "Advent in Vienna" reporting a flattering recognition. The current staff is about 25 elements. The annual organization of the Polyphony Festival allows the Schola to compare itself with other choirs, being appreciated with the participation in various events organized by public and private bodies, recording songs for the "Vecchio Mulino" label and doing teaching work at the schools of the district.
