The Musical Chapel “Pamphiliana” of the Cathedral of Sulmona, is the choir of liturgical celebrations presided over by the Bishop of the homonymous Diocese. It carries out its activity in the cathedral basilica of the city and is based at the Bishop’s Palace. It is a legally recognized cultural association and is accredited by the Episcopal Curia. Directed by Maestro Alessandro Sabatini, the training carries out research, protection and execution of the sacred heritage of tradition. Currently the choir is composed of about 30 singers of different ages and united by the passion for singing. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in his region and outside, receiving appreciable acclaim. In 2010, he coordinated the activities of the Choir and Orchestra of the Diocese and animated, worldwide, the liturgy presided over by the Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI on a pastoral visit to the land of Abruzzo.
The Conductor
Alessandro Sabatini, pianist, choir director, contraltist. Born in Villa Santa Maria (CH) in 1978. He approached music thanks to Maestro Father Giulio Capetola who directed him to his studies. He obtained the titles of piano and later of choral music and choir conducting. He studied organ with Giacomo Dell’Orso and vocal technique with Edda Sabatini Dell’Orso and Stefania Caccavello. He studied composition and deepened the Gregorian and Renaissance repertoire with Don Donato Martorella. He participates in research and in-depth seminars in Italy and Europe. Especially in Germany, with Leihner and De Oully for the formation of children’s voices. In Vasto, he attended courses in interpretative technique of the Baroque repertoire with Giovanni Acciai. He is a member of AISC, the Italian Association of Santa Cecilia. From 2002 to 2006 he was director of the San Paolo Polyphonic Choir and in 2006 he was appointed Maestro di Cappella of the Cathedral Basilica of Sulmona. He is Artistic Conductor of the Pamphiliana Musical Chapel of the Cathedral of Sulmona. Since 2007 he has been head of the Diocesan Office of Sacred Music. In 2008 he founded and directed the Choir of the Diocese, an impressive choral team formed by about 300 singers.
