Biography

The Polyphonic Choir of Civitanova del Sannio is a stable reality in the Civitanovese culture.
In fact, there has always been a representation of people who, throughout history, have been part of the choral ensemble.
The polyphonic choir, as we know it now, was born at Easter 2008 after months of preparations and experiments, led by the parish priest of the community, Fr Luigi Primiano, who has always wanted a constant and participatory liturgical animation for Sunday celebrations.
Over the years the choir has seen the arrival and, unfortunately, the departure of different elements, each of which contributes to novelties, improvements and human and personal contribution.
Currently, the choir has a statute that regulates its existence, mission, objectives and boasts a wide musical repertoire, liturgical and otherwise.
In fact, the drive of recent years is to speak, indeed, sing to an increasingly wide audience, culturally different and musically sensitive to different harmonies.
“Musicians animated by a Christian spirit should understand that they are called to cultivate sacred music and to increase its heritage.
Compose melodies that have the characteristics of true sacred music; that they may be sung not only by the major scholae cantorum, but which may also be appropriate to the minor scholae, and which may encourage the active participation of the whole assembly of the faithful.
The texts intended for sacred singing should conform to Catholic doctrine, indeed they should be taken preferably from sacred Scripture and liturgical sources.”
“I was reminded of a word from St. Augustine that says: ‘Cantare amantis est’.
The source of song is love. Singing is an expression of love. […]
Education to sing, to sing in choir, is not only an exercise of external hearing and voice; it is also an education of inner hearing, the hearing of the heart, an exercise and education for life and peace. Singing together, in choir, and all choirs together, requires attention to the other, attention to the composer, attention to the teacher, attention to this totality that we call music and culture and, in this way, singing in choir is an education to life, an education to peace, a journey together” (Pope Benedict XVI).
