The choir “LAETITIA” is the official choir of the Archdiocese of Potenza. It deals with the formation and preparation of the liturgical animators of the territory, as well as organizing events and concerts to disseminate a good culture of liturgical music.
It was born in 2002, on the impulse of the then Bishop Agostino Superbo who entrusted to the liturgical office of the time (directed by Don Domenico Pace) the intention of developing a formation course aimed at improving the knowledge of the liturgical animators present in the Lucanian territory. Today it is the only musical reality existing among all the dioceses of Basilicata.
From 2002 to 2014 the Choir was involved (under the guidance of Maestro Giuseppe Cillis. Titular organist of the Cathedral of Potenza and Don Domenico Pace) of the animation of some diocesan realities of territorial interest, starting from some events such as the “Missionary Vigils” or the celebrations of the “Traditio Symboli”.
After a short period of adjustment, the Choir was entrusted in July 2018 to the young Maestro Rocco Alessio Corleto, (graduated CO. FOR. LIM) which today holds the direction and didactic management, under the guidance of Fr Lino Moscarelli, current director of the diocesan liturgical office.
In 2018 the Choir, which had a staff of about 20 choristers, took the name of DIOCESAN CHOIR LAETITIA (Joy) and under the impetus of the new director came to count a number of 95 stable choristers in addition to about 30 instrumentalists.
