Founded in 1990 by the creative youth of Lviv. The members of the choir are students of educational institutions of the city who are fond of choral singing, they are not necessarily musicians, but people with a creative soul and great ability to work.
In different years the choir was led by: the founder of the choir Mykhailo Bogach (1990–1992), Bohdan Hengalo (1992–2000), Ihor Dankovsky (2000-2018). Since 2018, the Galician Chamber Choir “Evshan” is headed by a graduate of the Lviv National Academy of Music. MV Lysenko Irina Kreslenko (Kiselchuk).
The ensemble’s repertoire includes spiritual music, including party concerts by M. Diletsky, choral concerts by M. Berezovsky, D. Bortnyansky, M. Verbytsky, A. Wedel, works by J.S. Bach, J. Palestrini, V.A. Mozart, A. Caldari, A. Vivaldi, S. Gounod and many other world and Ukrainian composers, Ukrainian folk songs arranged for choir and works of contemporary composers.
In the creative biography of the choir – participation in the premiere of the musical by Yuri Saenko on the libretto by Bohdan Stelmakh “I Believe”; joint projects with the vocal formation “Picardian Third” (the program “The Mystery of Christmas in Ukrainian music and poetry” and the a cappella suite “Golgotha”); projects with the future winner of “Eurovision – 2004” Ruslana Lyzhychko (“Ringing Wind”, “Christmas with Ruslana”); premiere in Ukraine of the work of Polish composer S. Kondratovich “Clamor meus” in 2017, premiere in Lviv of the work of Welsh composer K. Jenkins “Stabat Mater” – 2019, participation in numerous choral festivals, including: International Festival “Invented Music” (Tarnow, Poland), Festival of Ukrainian Popular Music “Tavrian Games” (Kakhovka), International Festival “Virtuosos” (Lviv), “Lörrach singt” (Germany), “East – West together “(Radomsko, Republic of Poland), International Festival” Ozveny “(Slovakia),” On the waves of Stryj “(Stryj),” Praise the Lord from heaven “(Lviv), VIII Festival of Early Music in Lviv, International Ave Maria Festival of Sacred Music (Kremenets), International Church Music Festival (Gizycko, Republic of Poland), Night of Culture Festival (Vilnius, Lithuania), Schengen Meridian (Košice, Slovakia) , International Christmas Festival “Carol on Maizlya” (Ivano-Frankivsk), Festival “Carol on St. Michael’s Mountain” (Ivano-Frankivsk) . The ensemble is the author of music and performer of the Prayer to the Holy Martyr Nicholas at the reburial of St. M. Charnetsky (2002), as well as one of the founders and annual participant of the Festival “Big Carol” in Lviv.
What is worth only the geography of concert activities and awards of this group, because during its history “Evshan” has repeatedly toured the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, France, Poland, Slovakia, Belarus, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Czech Republic, Lithuania. The group took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Brest Union in the Vatican and Rome (Italy); in the Holy Liturgy and meetings with young people during the visit of Pope John Paul II to Lviv; in the opening of the first Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Yalta, 2011) and in the Holy Liturgy with the solemn transfer of the relics of St. Clement of Rome to the Church of the Holy Trinity in Yalta (2012); in the National Pilgrimage, Liturgy and Festive Concert on the Occasion of the Blessing of the Hagia Sophia in Rome (2012); in the celebrations on the occasion of the “Days of Ukrainian Culture” in Liberec, Czech Republic (2018-2019); in the Holy Liturgy led by the Bishop, Canon of the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore – Irenaeus Bilyk, Poprad, Slovakia (2018);
The Galician Chamber Choir “Evshan”, in order to promote Ukrainian choral art and spiritual rapprochement of two neighboring nations, performed a series of concerts in Slovakia, his prayer singing accompanied the consecration of the Greek Catholic Basilica in Lutina and the Hierarch’s Liturgy of the Greek Catholic Church Presov, Swidnik, Poprad, Bratislava, participated in the celebrations of the “Days of Ukrainian Culture” in Liberec, Czech Republic.
Yevshan’s creative achievements are numerous, as in addition to participation and victories in competitions and festivals of various levels, Yevshan also participates in cultural, artistic and church events, organizes concerts and creative meetings. The most significant achievements of the team can be considered:
• Grand Prix of the Regional Choral Competition dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the Prosvita Society (Lviv, 1993);
• Third place in the Second Regional Competition of Choirs and Chamber Choirs. Lesia Ukrainka (Lutsk, 1994);
• 1st place at the International Choral Competition “Mighty God” (Mogilev, Belarus, 1995);
• V place in the World International Choral Competition “The International Music Festival at Cantonigros” (Festival Internacional de Música de Cantonigròs) (Spain, 2004);
• II place and Diploma for the best performance of the competition work at the IV All-Ukrainian competition of choral art. Lesia Ukrainka (Lutsk, 2006);
• Grand Prix in the Regional competition of choirs dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Franko.
• I place in the VII All-Ukrainian competition of choral music named after D. Sichinsky (Ivano-Frankivsk, 2009);
• participation in the creative report of masters of arts and art groups of Lviv region in the National Palace of Arts “Ukraine” in Kyiv (2009);
• the title of “Laureate” of the I prize of the VI All-Ukrainian competition of choirs named after M. Leontovych (Kyiv, 2010);
• First prize in the 59th International Choral Competition HABANERAS y POLIFONIA in Torrevieja (Spain, 2013);
• Third place in the 60th International Choral Competition HABANERAS y POLIFONIA in Torrevieja (Spain, 2014).
• Second place and award for the best performance of a folklore work in the competition of prof. Josef Swider (Poland, 2017)
• Grand Prix of the XIV Interregional Festival – Competition “Songs of the Unforgettable Land” (Gorodok, 2018)
Yevshan collaborates with NULP chamber and symphony orchestras. During the collaboration the groups performed 4 major forms together: A. Vivaldi’s “Magnificat” (2017), the premiere in Ukraine of the work of Polish composer S. Kondratovich “Clamor meus” (2017), the premiere in Lviv of the Welsh work composer K. Jenkins “Stabat Mater” (2019), P. Vasx “Dona nobis pacem” (2019).
The band has 5 audio albums and 5 CDs. Also in 2019, “Yevshan” presented a new format of media for musical works – “flash drive – credit card” with a recording of G.
