The Polyphonic Choir “Santa Usanna” of Busachi began its activity in January 1998 on the initiative of the then Board of the Cultural Association “Collegiu” and in particular of its President Dr Piero Floris, of Mr. Vincenzo Deidda (president of the Choir until 2014), of Giomaria Aresi and Salvatore Sini and under the artistic guidance of maestro Pietro Pau.
The desire to make known to the Busachesi the work done, the experience that is being lived and the approach of the feast of Santa Susanna (August 10) pushes the members, together with the master Pau, to prepare the “Goccios” in honor of the Saint that will be interpreted, in the first public exhibition, on August 10, 1998. Hence the name of the choir “Santa Usanna”.
Maestro Pietro Pau was succeeded in 1999 by Maestro Giuseppe Erdas, who directed the Choir until 2007. During this period the Choir grows musically and expands its repertoire with its own songs and the Sardinian choral tradition also borrowing some songs from the choirs of Nuoro; some pieces of the Sardinian mass are also prepared, re-proposed with musical arrangements elaborated on the basis of documents handed down by the local singers now disappeared, which is presented for the patronal feast of St. Anthony in 2008. In 2007 the Direction of the Choir was entrusted to MAESTRO Gianni Puddu, graduated in piano at the Conservatory of Cagliari with Maestro Buccellato.
During these last years, with the return of some old choristers, the grafting of new young people and the push of the new master, the choir regains momentum and vigor; in 2009 he participated in the First International Festival of Santa Susanna in Spain and in 2010, in Friuli, in the International Choral Festival “Alpe Adria” of Treppo Grande in the province of Udine. To crown all the activity carried out until 2010, in that year a CD was published, “A sa mod’e Busachi”, in which the Choir proposes a collection of significant songs of the local tradition.
In all these years the Choir has set its activity aimed at artistic growth and cultural enrichment that has been achieved in moments of comparison with other choirs with performances in various realities of the island but above all through weekly lessons that have allowed to acquire an increasingly wide and demanding repertoire both as a traditional profane song and as a song of the religious tradition.
In its activity the Polyphonic Choir “Santa Usanna” is committed to involving the local population through the organization of an annual event, “ANTIGAS ARMONIAS”, in which it performs with other choirs, and with performances on the occasion of special occasions such as Christmas and the patronal feasts.
