The Polyphonic Choir “Città di Tolentino”, born in 1980, has carried out an intense concert activity, obtaining acclaim and recognition both in Italy and abroad (Yugoslavia, Federal Germany, France, Greece, Poland, Spain, Holland, Austria, Bohemia, Czech Republic, Belgium, Latvia, Slovak Republic, Portugal and Russia).
Since 1984 he has organized the Choral Music Festival “Città di Tolentino” in which there are exhibitions of music publishing, conferences and concerts in which take part in addition to the best Italian choirs, formations from all over the world.
The RAI (Radio Televisione Italiana), recognizing the high artistic level, has entrusted the Choir with the realization of the transmission “La Polifonia nelle Marche”.
Since 1988 the Choir organizes, with the collaboration of the Educational Institutions, the “Concerts for schools”, performances aimed at teaching and musical education.
In 1985 and 1987 he performed, respectively, in the national premiere, the “Misa Criolla” and the “Navidad Nuestra” by Ariel Ramirez, of which he also made a compact-disc.
In July 1993 he participated in the International Competition “Crystall Chor” held in Novy Bor (Bohemia), obtaining the first prize in the special section reserved for the interpretation of a repertoire of contemporary music and the first prize in the general ranking.
With the Chamber formation of the Polyphonic Choir “Città di Tolentino” he participated in 1994 in the auditions organized by the Italian Musical Youth resulting in the winner “with a note of merit”, presenting the dialogical madrigals of Orazio Vecchi and Adriano Banchieri, still performed in different locations.
In 1997 the Choir established the first professional training course for “Choir Artist”. In the years 1998-99 the Coro Polifonico Città di Tolentino curated the production of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, and performed the national premiere of the Mass of St. Rita of Cascia, by Mauro Zuccante, of which it oversaw the creation of compact-discs and cassette tapes.
In 2000, after having performed Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass as a national premiere, he released a compact-disc.
In August 2003 the Choir participated in the I International Choral Festival held in the city of St. Petersburg (Russia) on the occasion of the events organized to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the foundation of the city.
In the last four years the collaboration with the Veronese composer Mauro Zuccante has strongly intensified, a collaboration that has allowed the Choir to perform the national premiere of the show “Cantautori Italiani in Coro” (pieces by Italian songwriters with unpublished arrangements for choir, soloists and instruments), the scenic action for reciting voices, choir and orchestra “Come polvere sulla bilancia” and the oratorio for soloists, choir and orchestra “Vigiliae. Spiritual scenes of St. Nicholas of Tolentino”.
The oratory was performed in October 2004 in absolute premiere on the occasion of the celebrations for the VII Centenary of the death of St. Nicholas of Tolentino.
