The Choral Association "Giuseppe Verdi" of Ostiglia (MN) was established in 1947. The repertoire is both lyrical, as exclusively at the beginning, and sacred: in addition to the main and best known choirs taken from numerous operas, in fact, we can remember various religious pieces from eras between 1500 and 1900 (from Van Berchem to Stravinski) and quite demanding texts, such as -for example- the "Gloria in re magg.", "Credo", "Magnificat" by Vivaldi ; the "Te Deum" and "Vesperae solennes de confessore" and Mozart's "Requiem", Rossini's "Stabat Mater", Verdi's "Four Sacred Pieces" and "Requiem".
CONCERTS
It would be impossible to remember the countless concerts, both lyrical and sacred, held in the centers of the province of Mantua and in the provinces of many Italian regions; but it is necessary, at least, to mention the participation of the "Giuseppe Verdi" Choir in prestigious musical events: the Festival of choirs (May 1980) in the Republic of San Marino; the Rassegna di Musica Sacra a Roma (1982) in the basilicas of S. Ignazio and S. Maria in Aracoeli ; the 3rd International Festival of Mediterranean Polyphony (1983) held in Molfetta (BA) directed by Marcel Courand; the International Festival of Choral Singing (1988) in Ostiglia ; the concert held in Verona for the NATO Command (1994). .Also noteworthy is the execution of the "Carmina Burana" by C. Orff in Mantua, Soragna, Reggio nell'Emilia, Fontanellato and Crema.
Also abroad the Choral "G. Verdi" has been noted for its competence and professionalism: in 1981 and 1986 in France (Lyon, Mont Saint Michel); in 1984 and 1988 in Spain (Barcelona, Vic, Monserrat); in 1985 in Greece, in 1987 in Poland, (Warsaw, Gdansk) in 1990 in Slovakia.
Many concerts have been performed with orchestras, such as the "Torelli" of Verona, the "Filarmonici" of Modena, the "Costantin Silvestri" Orchestra of Bucharest, the Croatian radio and television orchestra, with which he recorded, in Zagreb, in October 1996 a CD with music by the opera composer Stefano Gobatti, the Vltava Philharmonic Orchestra.
THE ACTIVITY
In April 1998, he performed Gioacchino Rossini's "Petite Messe Solennelle" in Guastalla, Modena, Suzzara and Mirandola, and recently presented again in Macerata. In May 1998, the choir "G. Verdi" presented the "Carmina Burana" by C. Orff in Lechbruck (Germany) as part of the congress on the "Via Claudia Augusta", organized by the city of Fussen, with the patronage of the European Community; the "Carmina" were then presented again in many other cities (the last occasion in the summer of 2009 in Carpi).
The interest of the Choir has also turned, under the guidance of the Conductor Giuliano prof. Vicenzi, to the rediscovery of precious and unpublished songs, such as the "Kyrie e Gloria" by A. Greggiati (the score is present in the Music Library "Greggiati" of Ostiglia) or the "Salve Regina" and the "Mass for Christmas Eve" by G. Paisiello, performed in Paris in 2006.
In recent years they stand out for the warm success obtained: production and performance of "Cavalleria Rusticana" by Pietro Ma scagni in numerous cities of Lombardy, Emilia and Veneto (the last at the Teatro del Vittoriale by D'Annunzio in Gardone in 2008); the tour in Russia (St. Petersburg and Moscow) at the invitation of the Italian cultural attaché in Moscow, prof. Perrino, in April 2009; the execution of the "Requiem" by G. Verdi (March – June 2010) in various locations in northern Italy.
