The Cultural Association polyphonic choir “Ars Antiqua” of Seneghe, founded in 1999 by a group of people passionate about singing, has participated in numerous singing festivals at local and regional level. Since March 2017 it has been directed by Maestro Nicola Piredda, a very talented young man from Siena who takes care of his passion for singing since he was a child. He teaches keyboard and choral singing, directs the vocal ensemble Globe music academy and is a member of various musical formations. The choir has a wide repertoire of ancient music, Renaissance and traditional folk songs in the Sardinian language.
He performs pieces from different eras and musical styles in various languages: Latin, Italian, Sardinian, French, English, German and Spanish.
In 2014 he participated in Rome in the transmission “Una canzone di noi” and on that occasion he performed in various churches in the Roman capital. In February 2017 the choir joined the national event “M’illumino di meno” and organized the 1st edition of “Cantos e Sonos a lughi de istiaricas” finding great appreciation from the public. In 2017 she also conceived the cultural project “Seneghe, a village that sings” and thanks to the sensitivity of the Municipal Administration of Seneghe she was able to carry out various initiatives, including on November 25 the special evening in honor of Santa Cecilia and against violence against women which saw the active participation of all the choirs of Seneghe, of associations and the community.
For some years the Ars Antiqua choir has been involving children in a workshop of children’s songs. In 2017 the educational and artistic project was entrusted to the maestro Nicola Piredda and is included in the cultural project “Seneghe, a village that sings” with the aim of following the very young singers with a program of enhancement of the Sardinian and Christmas choral tradition and with the intention of transmitting to the new generation the passion for choral singing in groups.
