Biography

The “Harmonia” Music Academy of Locride, based in Siderno (RC), offers all those who love music and the arts a qualified education and training center and a meeting point where you can practice music at an amateur or professional level. Although it is recently founded, it is the result of more than thirty years of experience in the field of diffusion and musical and cultural production. The Academy can count on a group of teachers graduated from the Conservatories of Music and specialized in the disciplines envisaged; it also has musical instruments and spaces equipped for ensemble rehearsals in small and large groups with the aim of providing useful skills to start learners to study a musical instrument.

AGREEMENT WITH THE CONSERVATORY OF VIBO VALENTIA
Since 2013 the Academy has an agreement with the Conservatory “F. Torrefranca” of Vibo Valentia for the performance of Pre-academic Training Courses. The entrance and passage exams are held at the headquarters in Siderno. Courses are available for piano, guitar, singing, violin, accordion, flute, clarinet, etc. These courses provide the basic musical preparation to access academic courses according to the new system of conservatories.

COURSES OF CHORAL AND INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE MUSIC
The Musica d’Insieme courses offer students the opportunity to meet and learn about all the instruments, largely made available by the Academy especially with regard to classical percussion, and to obtain a highly formative experience. The rehearsals of choral singing and ensemble music take place regularly and are part of the educational path proposed to the students in order to refine their musical skills, to deepen mutual listening and to encourage aggregation and socialization.

EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING PROJECTS
In compliance with the programmatic guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, University and Research, which provide for the activation of procedures to develop instrumental and choral musical practice and culture in schools of all levels, together with ensemble music activities, the Academy organizes and proposes training projects and educational courses to be carried out in collaboration with the schools present in the area. In the academic year 2011/12 he realized a project of Lessons – concert and guided tours with the II Didactic Circle of Siderno. In the following years he organized orientation activities in the schools of the district. All the activities carried out have a positive impact on the territory and aim to raise the cultural level of citizens and improve their quality of life.

COMPETITIONS
The students of the Academy participate in competitions for soloists and chamber music groups. In May 2018 they achieved excellent results in the competitions: “Johann Brahms” of Giarre (CT); A.M.A. Calabria of Nicotera; Giovani in Musica di Reggio Calabria.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR
The singing rehearsals of the “Aulos” Choir take place on a weekly basis and with a stable character. The initiative is totally free and is open to all children aged 6 to 12 years. This activity was born for educational purposes, to bring children closer to music through singing, but also and above all to give support to those who live in situations of family or social hardship. The Aulos Choir participates in competitions, essays of the “Harmonia” Academy and concerts. Between December 2017 and January 2018 he took part in numerous charitable initiatives and performed several concerts at the city institutions; we remember the Christmas Concert for the guests of the “Sant’Antonio” Retirement Home in Siderno and the Epiphany Concert at the Tent of the Community of Donisi.

CONCERT ACTIVITY
The Academy promotes and coordinates various musical initiatives to allow young musicians to propose themselves to the public and to provide moments of listening to the students. These initiatives can also be carried out in the form of a partnership with Bodies and Associations engaged in the dissemination and practice of music. The School also organizes production activities resulting from the didactic study. Among these, there are the essays at the end of the academic year, carried out both inside and outside the School, and the exercises that affect all the instrument classes.

EVENTS ORGANIZATION
Since 2011 the Academy organizes events on an annual basis: “Music with the stars” in July; “Merry Christmas in music” in December.
The Concerts are held by the teachers and students of the same Association and offer performances for soloists or ensembles; the programs are varied and range from classical music to modern music; particular attention is given to traditional music and singing.
There are numerous experiences of ensemble music with performances for polyphonic choir and small orchestra.
In May 2019 the Academy organized the 1st edition of the “National Music Competition for Young Performers” which received considerable interest and saw the participation of soloists, groups, school orchestras. The Competition had an extremely prestigious examining board because it was composed of illustrious names on the national and international music scene. In 2020 the 2nd edition will have a different connotation: it will take place exclusively online; to the “Social Music Contest” that through social shares will give visibility to all those who wish to try their hand at a musical performance.
