The choir was born in 1980 at the behest of Don Adamalfio, then parish priest of Borgo Rivo of the parish Sana Maria del Rivo, who wanted a polyphonic choir of adults to be performed in solemn feasts.
He proposed difficult challenges in those days such as songs by Perosi that he adored, Palestrina and other tough …
At first it was difficult to find motivated people who accepted such ambitious repertoires. Then… the gratification and the awareness of succeeding in something so difficult, but, at the same time, beautiful and unique, has overcome the initial hesitation. The choir has always been open to everyone, acquaintances of music or not, lovers of rock or classical it was not important what has always united and held together the choir was and is the passion the love for singing and for a sicera and true company, without many frills. This common goal has meant that over time the repertoire has expanded. The first director was Sandra Grisantiche directed it with mastery until Easter 2006. Member of the choir was her husband Sandro Castiglione, a bass role, who with his passion and lightheartedness participated until the last when due to a hard illness he left us. We as a choir could not help but remember him by giving the choir itself its name. Thus was born the “Sandro Castiglione choir” and no longer the Santa Maria del Rivo Choir. Over time there have been several directors whom we thank for passion and dedication and who we do not mention only so as not to risk not mentioning some, but that we all carry in our hearts.
The current director is Sara Cresta who with professionalism and constancy spurs us to be more and more professional and passionate, continuing a tradition now thirty years old in a way that we hope worthy of the name we have chosen.
