The polyphonic choir “San Pietro” has been operating for 20 years in the parish community of the homonymous Church of Trapani and was originally established on the initiative of the young parishioners Caterina Torrente and Carmen Pellegrino. The group usually animates Sunday liturgies and some particular moments of the Christian faith, including the traditional “Descent of Christ from the Cross” which, since the Middle Ages, has been relived on Good Friday at the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù.
Since 2004, the choir has been led, for a five-year period, by Maestro Vincenzo Mocata with whom, in addition to liturgical animation, he has undertaken a rewarding concert activity: in November 2005 he participates in the XXXI Review of Singing in the Liturgy organized by the Centro Rassegne Musicali “P. Umberto Sciamè” of Palermo obtaining excellent feedback from the technical jury; in May 2006 he participated in the concert-event for band, three organists, 14 solo voices and choir formed by more than 100 elements directed by Maestro Giancarlo Bini and organized by the Association “Amici della Musica” of Trapani at the Church of S. Pietro; in August 2008 he performed at the I International Festival of Claviorgano and Baroque Music of Erice-Trapani accompanied by Maestro Michele Manganelli; in November 2008 he participated in the VII Festival of Sacred Music of Alessandria della Rocca (Ag) winning the Special Prize “Regione Sicilia” for the best performance of a piece related to the history of Sicilian religious popular traditions; in May 2019 he participated in the 7th National Choral Festival of Sacred Marian Music of Bagheria and in November of the same year, he received the prize for “musical elaboration” at the XVII National Festival of Sacred Choral Music of Alessandria della Rocca (Ag).
He holds annual concerts on various occasions including the Solemnity of Christmas, the Marian festivities and the celebrations of June 29 in honor of the Patron Saint. He is part of the diocesan polyphonic choir “Virgo Drepanensis” that animates the solemn pontificals presided over by the Bishop of Trapani. It is a polyphonic vocal group composed of 18 elements divided into 4 classical voices directed by Caterina Torrente and, sometimes, by Maestro Carmen Pellegrino, who accompanies her on the organ and takes care of its preparation.
