Biography

In 1979 Maestro Nicola Stivaletta, with the collaboration of four girls, formed a small singing group that bears the name “Le Sirene di Vasto” with the aim of rediscovering the traditions of Abruzzo folklore. Gradually enriched with new elements, in November 1983 it was officially established under the name of Gruppo Folkloristico “Aniello Polsi” in memory of the homonymous master who died in April of the same year. Also in 1983 the group worthily represented the Abruzzo region and the City of Vasto in the Franciscan Celebrations in Assisi. In 1986, the Group performed in the city of Queregnon in Belgium for the local Associazione Emigranti Abruzzesi. Over the years, the Group has been the protagonist of numerous events not only in Abruzzo but also in other Italian regions and abroad, also promoting cultural exchanges: in 1988 with the “Franco Marongiu” Group of OZIERI (SS), in 1989 with the Group “I Promessi Sposi” of OGGIONO (CO) and in 1990 with the Musical Band of SLUDERNO (BZ). In May 1992 the Folk Group “Aniello Polsi” participates in the “5th International Festival of Choirs” in Clusone (BG). 1993 was marked by participation in the Celestine Celebrations in L’Aquila. In 1994 and 1996 the Group returned to Belgium at the invitation of the Queregnon Emigrant Association. In June 2007 he repeated with great success the Bergamo experience on the occasion of the 7th “International Festival of Choirs” in Clusone (BG). In August 2009 he participated in the first “National Folklore Festival” in Onelli (PG) and in September of the same year, at the event “Singen In Den Bergen” (Singing in the mountains) in the Austrian town of Wolfsberg. In May 2011 he participated in the “II Folkloristic Meeting City of Terni”. In August 2012 the Group participated in the First International Competition for Choirs and Folk Groups “Folklando la Valnerina” in Torre Orsina (TR). Since 2011 it has been organizing its own folk festival entitled “Uaste ‘bbelle, terra d’eure”, now in its fourth edition and to which they have enthusiastically joined in recent years: the “Cantori del Golfo” of Vasto, the folk group “La fontana” of Cupello, the folk choir “Colline verdi teatine” of San Giovanni Teatino, with which it is twinned since 2012, the choir “Francesco Paolo Tosti” of Francavilla al Mare, the choir “Incanto teatino” of Torrevecchia Teatina, the choir “IDICA” of Clusone (BG), the association “Diversa-Mente” of Terni, the “Giovane Corale Cupellese” of Cupello; the Teatino Folk Group of Circolo A.C.L.The. 2000 Father Ugolino of Chieti, the folk choir “Città di Spoltore” of Spoltore, the choir “Le Voci delle Ville” of Ortona and the choral “Melodie d’Abruzzo” of Pescara. The Group is directed by Maestro Marilena Lucci.
