The SGGW Choir is a group of individuals brought together by their passion for music and singing. The combination of their skills and commitment resulted in the formation of the SGGW Choir. This unique community consists of students, graduates, and other people with a significant impact on the cultural and social life of the University. Their passion and commitment keep the 60-year tradition of promoting musical culture alive.
The SGGW Choir’s history has its roots in the rich achievements of former groups: SGGW Academic Choir and SGGW Chamber Choir.
For many years, the SGGW Academic Choir was under the direction of Henryk Wojnarowski and Andrzej Banasiewicz, followed by Michał Dąbrowski. The Academic Choir’s repertoire was dominated by sacred compositions of different periods, with a particular focus on the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. The initiative of the SGGW Academic Choir resulted in the Cantate Domino Festival. They have received many awards for their numerous concerts at home and across borders and for their performance in competitions and festivals. The history of the SGGW Chamber Choir, founded to expand the Promni Folk Ensemble (named after Zofia Solarzowa), forms a part of the musical tradition of the SGGW Choir. During the early years, the Chamber Choir was conducted by Joanna Maluga, followed by Paweł Choina. 2016 marked a significant event in the group’s history with the Choir’s participation in the 200th-anniversary celebration of the SGGW and performance at the Grand Theatre of the National Opera in Warsaw together with Zbigniew Wodecki, Olga Bończyk, and Edyta Geppert. The Chamber Choir of SGGW has attended competitions and festivals over the years, during which it has received many awards and prizes.
The SGGW Choir’s repertoire is diversified, from Renaissance madrigals, 19th-century songs, masterpieces written by 20th- and 21st-century composers to pop and film music arrangements.
